Greetings! I'm Maxine, owner of Max Owens Design (formerly The Southern Table, Floral + Event Design). We are located in Dallas, Texas and offer an organic, yet elegant, design aesthetic to our clients. Inspired by nature, we seek to unify the built environment with the natural for all our weddings and events. I love taking a blank canvas and bringing nature in!

My background is actually very eclectic, and my journey to flowers is truly serendipitous. I have a degree in bio science, but fell into retail and design after I quit med school (yes, that happened!). Along the way, I worked in visual design, merchandising, and management for Anthropologie, Crate and Barrel, and Barneys New York. I couldn't have predicted at the time, but each one of those experiences laid the groundwork and prepared me for a career in the wedding and event world. Flowers are my chosen medium to create art. Color and texture guide me in my choices, and I love filling a room with unusual color combinations that surprise guests!

Things I'm good at

  • Trivia! I was a friend's lifeline on Who Wants to Be A Millionaire. He chose me for my pop culture knowledge.
  • Sweet dance moves. "The Robot" and "The Lunge" are the top of my repertoire.
  • Being an awesome travel buddy. I love traveling and have been to more than 18 countries, however, I'm probably better travelled in Europe than I am in the US.
  • Volleyball. I played in college, although at 5'9" I was the shortest on my team.
  • Making myself laugh. I'm an only child, so I had to learn how to keep myself entertained.

 

Things I'm bad at

  • Early mornings. I am a florist, but I'm a night owl!
  • Computers. No comprende mucho. I'm an artist, dangit!
  • Cooking. Well, I guess I'm not bad, I just don't like it, so I don't do it. Thankfully the husband loves it!
  • Being tidy. Hey, Einstein's desk was really messy, so basically, I'm a genius.
  • Closing drawers. I have a weird disease where I only close drawers 90%. Don't ask me where it came from, I have no idea!

Things you probably don't know about me

  • My first name is actually Dora. Like the Explorer. (It was my Dad's mother's name, Maxine was my mom's mother's name).
  • I have two Weimaraner dog children, Kenny and Cooper. Yes, they come to my studio with me. Kenny is the good one and Cooper is naughty.
  • I was born in Mexico! We moved back to the US when I was one and I grew up in Dallas.
  • I'm a huge Harry Potter and Game of Thrones nerd.
  • Meerkats are my favorite animals, I'd choose NY over LA, and Beatles over Elvis.
