Hey guys! I'm Wendy, owner of Birds of a Feather Events. Birds of a Feather is a boutique wedding planning and design firm that focuses on outdoor and destination weddings and offering our clients a concierge-level experience.

Whew, elevator pitch out of the way, let's get down to the nitty gritty!

I come from a TV background where I produced and directed live television and called the shots - literally! After 8 years of 60 hour work weeks and feeling a disconnect between the subject matter and my clients, the burnout was real.com and I decided I needed a change or I was going to drown. Around that same time I was planning my own wedding, my best friend's wedding, and another friend's sister's wedding, and yall, I was thriving! I had found something that combined the love I still had for my current job, but a whole new creative outlet. I was in my element. When I came home from my honeymoon, I got to work. I paid someone on Etsy a whopping $300 to design my logo, website, and my business cards. I was a real wedding planner, the card said so! I soon realized that planning someone else's wedding is much scarier than planning your own. I knew what I knew, and it was not a lot! I am so thankful for those girls who took a chance on me in the beginning and hired me, but really, what were they thinking? I battled through those first months, still working my 60 hour a week production manager job in TV mind you, got some education through the AACWP (which was pretty base-level, and I needed it), and 9 years later I'm still here, so much wiser. You can only imagine the lessons I have learned over the past 9 years, and I'm beyond ready to share these experiences, and much more, with all of you at the Elevate Series!

Planners who are feeling stuck and don't know how to get to the next level in their business.

Planners who are wanting to add on design services, or who are currently designing, but are not confident in their design process.

Planners that are just winging it when it comes to selling their services.

Planners who want to add to their portfolios with editorial shoots that better express their brand and message, bringing them their ideal clients.

Planners searching for their tribe.
Who The Elevate Series is For:

It is probably considered the lowest form of writing, but I'm a wedding planner, not a writer, so here are some more things "about me" in listicle form because, well, see the "things I'm bad at" list...

Things I'm good at

  • giving it to you straight
  • working under pressure and against a deadline (I'm writing this whole page the day before this site goes live, insert smug emoji here)
  • being transparent
  • saying no and managing people's expectations of me (I'm killer at the work/life balance most days)
  • Parks and Rec, Harry Potter, and RuPaul's Drag Race trivia

Things I'm bad at

  • waking up to an alarm (hard pass)
  • writing, it can bring me to tears (how am I doing so far?)
  • making things straight and even (I have a person for this)
  • photography (I also have a person for this, shout out Charla)
  • not eating the chips and salsa

Favorite Quotes

  • "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." - Thomas Edison
  • "Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is doing something else." - Tom Peters
  • "You do it because the doing of it is the thing. The doing is the thing. The talking and worrying and thinking is not the thing." - Amy Poehler
  • "For what it's worth: it's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again." - F. Scott Fitzgerald
  • "Unless they paying your bills, pay them bitches no mind" - RuPaul

Things you probably don't know

  • I don't share blankets - not even with my husband. If we are traveling together and sharing a bed, you better call the front desk.
  • My gag reflex is so strong that sometimes cartoons make me gag. My husband once pretended to drink from the dog's water bowl and I lost it.
  • I grew up in a roller rink and still own my own skates to this day. Yes. I can skate backwards.
  • I actually own THREE businesses! I have a sister company that specializes in wedding management only (month of coordination), and I also own a Photo Booth company. We can chat more about different streams of income in November
  • I have brumotactillophobia, misophonia, and am equally left and right brained (if you believe in that sort of thing).
